There is a dog standing on the map with its tail in the air. Follow the dense street grid of Kowloon in Hong Kong and this GPS art drawing appears. The head points west toward Sham Shui Po, the tail points east toward Kowloon City, and the four legs reach south toward Yau Ma Tei and Ho Man Tin.
You start near the dog's head, run the outline all the way around, and finish where you started.
How the drawing works
Head and ears — Right after the start you zig-zag around small blocks to form the pointy ears and snout. This is the most detailed part of the drawing.
Back — A long, almost straight run east along a main road that crosses Kowloon. The easiest stretch to find your rhythm.
Tail — A short out-and-back to the north at the east end becomes the raised tail.
Legs — Two long out-and-backs to the south are the front and back legs; the small turns at the bottom are the paws.
Before you run
About 22.6 km (14.0 mi) — longer than a half marathon. With many traffic lights and crossings, aim to finish the drawing, not to set a PB.
Hong Kong is hot and humid. In summer start early and plan water stops at convenience stores.
Mong Kok and Yau Ma Tei are packed with pedestrians. Slow down through the market streets.
The tight turns around the head are much easier with the route shown on your watch.

With GPS art, the highlight is the moment the drawing is complete. Just before the finish the camera pulls back to show the whole finished picture.
Add a text like "Hong Kong Dog Run 🐕" to make it even more fun.
The route drawing and sample run (time, pace, heart rate) are examples generated from the map route. Before running it for real, check local conditions such as traffic lights, construction and closures.
